Garage Sale Butterflies for the Enclosure

We found the two butterfly plates at a garage sale!

Love the brown, earthy colors.

You can feel the texture!

Decorating the Coop Part 2

Found this beautiful ceramic sign while we were at a garage sale.  It is the same rich tones as our other sign.  I hope it doesn't break.

When I told the lady at the garage sale that I wanted to decorate my coop, she laughed and then told me about her chicken-raising days!

The metal kite in front of the enclosure is on a stake.  It balances on a sturdy pin, so it spins ever so daintily and wiggles like a kite.  It is fun to watch.

Homemade!

These are our chickens' eggs and our hot peppers grown in the garden! It's wonderful being able to go out and grab breakfast!

Watching the Girls on their Roost

The roost we built for the girls is getting a lot of use.  The weather has been so hot here they did not want to sleep in the coop.  It took a couple of days, but they have been sleeping on the roost all night long.  The chicken poo is pretty easy to clean up, also.

Two levels, even though they like the top.

I want to watch, too!

Whew.  My own chicken chair!

The First Meal!

Ruby, the star of the day!

Beautiful orange color.

Mmmmm, good!
Ruby, our Rhode Island Red, was the second to lay an egg.  That gave us enough for a meal!

The taste was wonderful.  We have happy chickens, which gives healthy eggs.

Life is good!

The First Egg!

Crystal, our Buff Orpington, was the first to lay an egg!  She has been quite vocal the last couple of days, eating and drinking a lot, and walking a bit funny.

This morning she went into the coop and laid her first egg.  She was pretty loud.  When we collected the egg, she was following us to make sure we knew the egg was hers.

The rest of the girls are sure to follow soon.
