It's Hot Outside - Keeping the Hens Cool

It is blazing hot here.  We are hovering around 100 degrees for the third day, with no end to the heat wave in sight.

I added ice to the water.  I am keeping the area under the water damp.

We purchased a mister at K-Mart that attaches to the garden hose.  The hens don't like the mist directly on them, but they do like the cooler area.

They like the shade under the lilac bush, so I have watered that area a couple times each day.

Then the mister is close by.  And the watering jug with the ice is close to the lilac bush  and in the shade.

I know I am hot - and I don't have feathers!

The Girls Found Their New Perch

We strategically placed a couple of sawhorses in the yard -- in the shade and away from the fence line.

Eating Watermelon -- Again!

A beautiful day here -- 65 degrees with a slight breeze.  The ladies were eating another watermelon.

Little did we know, about an hour later we got a hard rain and HAIL!  I have never seen hail without very hot temperatures.  This climate change is getting serious.
